"Had he been a guitar player he'd surely be a legend. A singer-pianist, he is largely forgotten ... While this collection is unlikely to change any of that, it's cause for celebration for those of us who deem Sykes a neglected blues giant ... At first glance the collection's Later Years subtitle appears off, since Sykes recorded for another 20 years following the final track here, but it references his last waxings for a largely black audience ... There's plenty reason to recommend this: the sound throughout is excellent, there are session details, notes by Bob Fisher and, first and foremost, Sykes doing what he did best in varied settings".
