"En kompetent opførelse, der fint og uden unødig pointering forener det komiske med det stilistiske ... Hovedpartierne er besat af Franz Hawlata og Julia Bauer - han, en hyppig anvendt og værdsat fremstiller af baron Ochs, og hun, med charme og indtagende vokal sprødhed. Optagelsen er teknisk perfekt".

"Strauss and Stefan Zweig's take on Ben Jonson, little the worse for being cut. Despite lively conducting and Hawlata's resonant Morosus heading a fresh cast, it still sounds heavy-handed".

"It's very good to welcome this new account from Chemnitz Opera, conducted by Frank Beermann and decently played by the Robertm Schumann-Philharmonie. What the playing sometimes lacks in polish, it makes up for in lively theatricality ... Beermann paces the whole work with great skill, keeping things moving but never hustling his singers ... Franz Hawlata, a noted Baron Ochs, makes a terrific Sir Morosus ... Anyone wanting to get to know Die Schweigsame Frau should certainly explore this new set".

"The voices in this new set are quite fine: Julia Bauer is the equal of any in the title-role and Franz Hawlata as Morosus has the kind of baritone sound that readily reveals the character's painful, old-age isolation".
