"Throughout this well-researched overview, Marcia Griffiths' voice is smooth, soulful and distinct. When she's working with producer Sonia Pottinger in the late '70s, it also becomes an instrument of liberation, the two women empowered in otherwise male-dominated studio territory on the self-autored 'Steppin' Out Of Babylon", intuitive readings of Bunny Wailer's "Dreamland" and "Peaceful Woman", spinetingling on Bob Marley & The Wailers' "I'm Hurting Inside" ... Also included here are Harry Johnson-produced, string-sweetened duets with [Bob Andy] [and] 1970 hit "Young, Gifted And Black" and "Pied Piper" from '71, her most apparent touchstone then being Carla Thomas".
