"The follow-up to Mike Kerr and Ben Thatcher's hugely successful debut doesn't deviate enormously from their established template ... While it starts thrillingly (...) they fail to sustain their momentum, the middle of the album suffering from a surfeit of unremarkable filler ... Still, one suspects it might sound far better on stage".

"Despite its foreboding title, How Did We Get So Dark? doesn't feel quite as heavy as its predecessor ... broadening the sonic palette helps sharpen the songs, and the result is a sophomore set that's ambitious and satisfying".
