"On her first album, Kaina Castillo unpicked issues connected to her Venezuelan-Guatemalan heritage; three years on, they're still very much in play but she's digging deeper into complex emotions. Musically too, there's a dip into something more muscular: alongside the warm and dreamy mix of soul, R&B and bedroom popthat aligns her with Bedouine and Arlo Parks sit "Ultraviolet", which features Sleater-Kenney and come on like a post-punk Janet Jackson, and "Apple", where subtle brass accents bring the swing".
