Kind of blue

Description

Summary: The DVD, entitled "Celebrating a masterpiece: Kind of blue," incorporates Columbia staff photographer Don Hunstein's black-and-white still photography of the studio sessions, the voice of Miles at the sessions, and excerpts of radio interviews with Evans and Adderley. There are interviews with David Amram, the late Ed Bradley, Ron Carter, Jimmy Cobb, Bill Cosby, Herbie Hancock (who demonstrates "So what" at the piano), funk-rocker Me'Shell Ndegeocello, hip-hop's Q-Tip, Carlos Santana, John Scofield, Horace Silver, and many others. It also unearths the group's entire 26 minute in-session appearance on "Robert Herridge Theatre: The sound of Miles Davis," a CBS television program recorded in 1959 and broadcast in 1960. The documentary was produced by Nell Mulderry, directed by Chris Lenz, edited by Paul Rachman, co-produced by Ashley Kahn, and written by Michael Cuscuna.

"If you purchased the Collector's Edition this will offer you nothing you don't already have in better form. If, however, you found yourself not rich enough to purchase that edition and would still love to own the complete studio session of a documented jazz classic, this is the way to go".

"Med sit fulde, multimedielle udtræk af kommentarer og opdateringer er bokssættet for musiknørder. Men først og fremmest er det en fløjlsforet præsentationsbakke for musikhistoriens mest perfekte blå diamant, der nu fremstår fornemt poleret op. Eksemplarisk præsenteret".

"En imponerende boks, der med vinyl, CDer, DVD, en informativ og rigt illustreret bog og meget andet formidler og fortæller om den udødelige musik".

"Is Kind of Blue the perfect jazz record? Not necessarily, even though when it arrived in 1959, DownBeat crowned it with a 5-star review. Is it still alluring in its sonic coolness? Definitely. Is it a breakthrough that continues to resonate? Most assuredly".
