"Overordnet set har albummet en tand mere energi end tidligere udgivelser, og med så mange påfund kunne de snildt trække et helt dobbeltalbum ... Førhen var det lyden af tropevarme, smeltende asfalt og svajende kaktusser, nu er der plads til mere rendyrket disko, funk og pop. Det er som sådan ikke en videreudvikling, bare en brydning, og hvis man savner mere af det samme Khruangbin, så er der måske kun et par numre at holde fast på".

"On their previous three albums (...), they have dabbled in dub reggae, Middle Eastern psychedelia, 1960s Thai music, funk and soul. For a band who seem to be happy piling ingredients on the plate, theirs is a surprisingly sparse sound - always leaving enough space for a satisfying emotional swell, or a fat funk break. On 'Mordechai', the largely instrumental band have chosen to introduce vocals up front and high in the mix ... It's a move that changes the dynamic without upsetting the band's delicate balance. Where before they could seem distant and locked into their own groove, the addition of the human voice welcomes us in and ushers us through the door ... Khruangbin have always made music that rewards close listening. With the vocal hooks and dancing boots of Mordechai, they're making it easier than ever for us to love them".

"'Mordechai' is Khruangbin at their most grounded and energetic, the tempo slightly raised with vocals infiltrating nearly every track - all three members sing throughout. The band artfully showcase their musical knowledge to create a project which marks a clear distinction for the largely instrumental band. With 'Mordechai', Khruangbin have at once expanded their horizons while rooting their latest project in a sound they've made their own".
