"In any event, Rautavaara's piece, with its lovely use of the choir's top register, is by far the strongest of the commissioned pieces, and although it's quite distinctive in style it fits in best with the traditional carols. Worthwhile for lovers of the English cathedral tradition".

"Perhaps the lower voices aren't quite as smoothly blended here as they usually are at King's, but generally the level of achievement reached in these live performances is enviable".

"Naturligtvis bjuds man på traditionella julsånger men här ryms också nyskrivet ... Som man kan förvänta sig är genomförandet av högsta klass. Stämningsfullt är bara förnamnet, och är man på jakt efter omväksling från Stilla natt och Nu tändas tusen juleljus känns det här albummet helt rätt".

"The BBC has broadcast it every year from 1928 ... listened to by millions, bringing comfort and joy to accompany ritual tasks such as the roasting and peeling of chestnuts in preparation for the following day ... This makes for strong, dramatic singing ... and there are plenty of traditional favourites to enjoy ... The readings and prayers add a sense of occasion ... The recording is full and warm, unmistakably that of King's College Chapel. If anything is to melt my inner-Scrooge and promote a festive atmosphere, this two-disc release is probably it".
