"Ocean is predictable Lady Antebellum: exquisite harmonies that craft simple, catchy songs that will make you smile, tap your toes, and sway your hips. Admittedly, some pieces of the collection are basically well-done filler: beautifully performed, somewhat banal yet comforting background noise. This is in no way meant to demean the threesome's talents, however, as their lush harmonies and ability to deliver timeless, universally relatable music is undeniable. In fact, when Lady Antebellum are firing on all cylinders, they are truly magical".

"Lady Antebellum offer more 21st century, feminised sensitivity, alluding to emotional currents in their lives leading up to this eighth album, but preserving a decorative sheen to lyrics which never really prick beneath the skin".

"Compared to the subdued glitz of Heart Break, their modern-minded 2017 collaboration with busbee, Ocean feels reserved and cautious, but it also feels soothing and welcoming. The whole thing rolls so smoothly, it's easy not to realize that the lightly grooving "Pictures" is a song of heartbreak, but that's the intent of Lady Antebellum with their seventh album: They mean to offer comfort, and that's precisely what Ocean delivers".
