"Christina Pluhar has thus taken on a big challenge. She has tackled this via an effective melding of Baroque opera with indigenous South American folk music, popular song styles, Renaissance instruments and modern choreography, producing a very accessible, readily-assimilated work. The singers, manifesting various styles and vocal weights, acquit themselves well".

"An original opera composed and arranged by Pluhar herself to a Spanish libretto ... Based loosely on the Orpheus legend ... this project sits at the world music extreme of what L'Arpeggiata do. Much of the work is traditional music from Mexico, Venezuela and Bulgaria arranged by Pluhar ... That this magpie project works as well as it does is down to performers who slip seamlessly between genres and styles ... yet it is Pluhar and her musicians who really drive this colourful, rhythmic journey forwards ... Orfeo Chamán certainly makes for a fascinating musical commentary".
