"Det er ikke for melodierne, at man skal give sig i kast med S. Carey, for umiddelbart iørefaldende er mandens kompositioner ikke. Generelt er der stadig noget lige lovlig trægt og forglemmeligt over mandens bedrifter, men talentet er ikke til at tage fejl af".

"Range Of Light seems beamed in from another age, another space with no chest-beating or ego, a refreshing travelogue from a seasoned musician in awe of nature and using his skills in composing to make something that holds a mirror up to the world and our small place in it. S Carey's work may not have the same iconic impact of Bon Iver but through it he has created an album which rewards repeated visits".

"As lovingly arranged and as beautifully recorded as the album is, there is still a feeling of having heard many of these styles before, especially on songs like the polyrhythmic "Crown the Pines," which could be an outtake from Sufjan Stevens' Greetings from Michigan album. Other comparisons to folk-pop heroes like Iron & Wine aren't out of place either, but Range of Light's unifying theme of the Sierra range is heartfelt".
