Description

Summary: Robert Cray has been bridging the lines between blues, soul, and R & B for the past four decades, with five Grammy wins and over 20 acclaimed albums. For his latest project, the Blues Hall of Famer traveled to Memphis with his friend, renowned Grammy Award winning producer Steve Jordan, to make a classic soul album with Hi Rhythm, the band that helped create that sound.

"... Robert Cray has gotten a lift from his new collaborators: supported by the Hi Rhythm Section he sounds livelier and grittier than he has in years, and that passion serves as a nice counterpoint to the smooth grooves on Robert Cray & Hi Rhythm".

"Cray has been criticized - rightfully at times - for repeating his distinctive if somewhat staid style for many of his almost 20 studio albums. But this one pushes outside those boundaries. It plays to Cray's established vocal and guitar strengths while injecting just enough grit and grease to spur him to new heights".

"Stylistically and emotionally pledged to Southern soul, Cray sings and plays spiky guitar lines with clarity and firmness on new love songs he's written and on classics from the likes of Sir Mack Rice and Bill Withers. Drummer-producer Steve Jordan and the other supporting musicians have the weight of experience on their side".
