"Credit Sarah Shook & The Disarmers for avoiding the usual case of first time jitters. While Sidelong marks the band's debut, Shook's defiant attitude makes it clear that she's not necessarily intimidated by the fact that she's a freshman competing for attention with many artists who are far more familiar ... Still, Shook is a peculiar kind of renegade, and while that may appear to be quite a contradiction, the fact that the music sticks to a well worn template-rootsy, rocking, upbeat shuffles done double time to accompany the sounds of barroom pomposity-suggests she's faithful to the kind of evergreen template most heartland heroes tend to adhere to".

"Sarah Shook and the Disarmers are the best thing to emerge from country music in the last ten years and Sidelong is the best album released, in any genre, so far this year".

"Sarah Shook is a honky-tonk badass with a chip on her shoulder and a kickass back-up band dedicated to the beauty of the profane ... Shook released Sidelong independently in 2015 to rave reviews in her home state of North Carolina. Bloodshot Records is making this debut available nationally, with a second album already in the can. After ten years of making music, Shook is deservedly in line to become one of Americana's next big players".
