"Sir John Eliot Gardiner's award-winning Mendelssohn series together in its entirety for the first time. Captured over three seasons during critically acclaimed concerts in the Barbican Hall, this set offers listeners the definitive account of Gardiner's unique take on Mendelssohn with the London Symphony Orchestra: a blend between the conductor's wide-ranging expertise and the orchestra's signature sound".

"Ugens album: På Ugens Album kan du høre Mendelssohns symfonier live, indspillet af Det Europæiske Kammerorkester ... Gennemsigtighed og elegance får man med ... dirigenten Yannick Nézet-Séguin".

"Orchestral choice: This new release of Mendelssohn's complete symphonies confirms the symbiotic relationship Järvi has forged with the orchestra, and is jam-packed with exciting, at times electrifying, music-making ... Many rival versions of this music exist, but it's difficult to think of any which surpass Järvi's for insight, immediacy and sheer enjoyment".

"Editor's choice: The live cycle from Yannick Nézet-Séguin and the Chamber Orchestra of Europe set a modern Mendelssohn benchmark. Using a larger orchestra - around 70 players to the COE's 45 - Paavo Järvi's new Zurich studio cycle strikes me as comparably fine ... Tonal warmth and, where needed, weight go hand in hand with that essential Mendelssohnian quality of airy lightness ... Both cycles are brilliantly executed and reveal a deep affinity with the composer's spirit and distinctive sound palette. On disc, at least, Mendelssohn has never had it so good".

"Recording of the month, Editor's choice: Séguin approaches the symphonies of Mendelssohn with an exploratory mind and deep care for colour, the COE responding with brilliance throughout this impressive set ... For anyone wanting a complete set of the symphonies in the lean, lithe modern mould ... Nézet-Séguin's imaginative, fabulously executed performances guarantee abiding pleasure".
