"Sting conceived of the concept of The Bridge after he completed its recording. Looking back at the polished, subtly and familiarly adventurous pop songs he composed, he realized the connecting thread between the tunes was connection itself - bridges between cultures, people, and eras, with water imagery alternating between comfort and danger. It takes some close listening to discern these elements of The Bridge, as it plays as smoothly as anything he's released in the 21st century. Happily, he retains the melodic sharpness that characterized 57th & 9th, his last solo album of straight-forward pop tune".

"He remains the troubadour with itchy feet, arriving to stay the night but already with one eye on the next day's departure. Sometimes the music is too comfortable for such strife, but there is more than enough here to satisfy. The voice still sounds great, too".

"'The Bridge' is so much more than a clever concept album, there are links between each of the songs and the prolific musician takes to the theme like a duck to water (sorry!) and whilst water is the common denominator, it is really about connection - connection between people, life and death and more".
