"The Chicago Sessions is a splendid example of Rodney Crowell doing what he does best, with some help from a guy who knows how to get him to play to his strengths; it's Crowell at his smart and soulful best".

"In 'The Chicago Sessions', Americana's Rodney Crowell travels to the house Wilco built and subtly delivers one of his best albums in years".

"'Th Chicago Sessions' is the highly agreeable result of a mutual love-in [at The Loft, Wilco's Chicago headquarters]. Produced by [Jeff] Tweedy (who also adds vocals, guitar and banjo), it's a loose, live-in-the-room experience centred around the two main protagonists and a trio of trusted Crowell players ... Perhaps unsurprisingly, given the locale, blues is the dominant force here, though it's filtered through Crowell's natural country leanings ... Crowell remains (...) an enduring force whose vitality shows few signs of waning".
