"Hints of psychedelia and bursts of frantic riffing flirt with a classic Primus sound over much of The Desaturating Seven - as on penultimate track The Storm - and Claypool's bass playing is back to its grimey, omnidextrous best. Captain Beefheart once offered: "A squid eating dough in a polyethylene bag is fast and bulbous." Perhaps if said squid ever got hold of a bass he would've sounded something like Les. It really doesn't matter if the goblins succeed in their mission, because with The Desaturating Seven, Primus are shitting rainbows".

"Les Claypool's trademark vocals and lurching bass mark this as an unmistakable Primus creation, so fans should appreciate this addition to their collections. Otherwise, The Desaturating Seven is unlikely to attract new fans. Typically eccentric, it's an interesting exercise, although nonessential outside the sphere of Primus/Claypool devotees".

"Overall, Primus definitely can tell a story. Here is an idea, they need to make a film to go along with this album! With music that is hypnotic, with vocals that sound catchy, trippy, and just right, it will be a treat to see them perform The Desaturating Seven live. For these reasons, CrypticRock gives this album 4.5 out of 5 stars".
