"The lead singer and songwriter for Blonde Redhead enlists Ryuichi Sakamoto, Greg Saunier, and others for a cottony swirl of an album where everything is quieter than everything else ... Adult Baby works best with the volume turned up, a soft mattress beneath you, all distractions on hold. And even though the music often resists forming into anything as solid as a hook, Makino's vaporous melodies have a way of creeping up on you long after the record has stopped spinning; they have a sneaky tenacity, like a dream you can't shake, even if you can't quite remember its particulars".

"On her first album independent of Blonde Redhead, Kazu Makino arrives at a new stage in life, one she examines with the curiosity of a beginner ... Like any other juvenile, Adult Baby boasts the areas in which it could grow further, such as sharper lyrical flows or maybe mixing up the instrumental homogeny. There's only so many times you can hear a snare and cymbal conclude a movement. Yet growing up means making a few mistakes, and to her credit, Mikano leans into every single one to learn something from it".
