"Born in Chicago in 1963 guitarist Dave Specter has been part of that cities music scene since he began playing clubs in 1985 ... the most comprehensive album of Dave Specter's career. The expressive guitarist is showcased as never before. He has become the complete artist".

"Dave Specter just may have made his strongest, most expressive album in his 35-year career. Proving that it's never too late, he makes his debut as a vocalist here on Blues from the Inside Out, a date that also features the renowned Jorma Kaukonen who plays on two of Specter's originals ... The album has a nice pace and flow to it, never dragging, often with instrumentals alternating with the vocals. Specter's playing has the right balance of emotion and precision as the band finds the groove consistently, with "Soul Drop" and the closer "String Chillin,' a mellow soul-jazz tune, two of the finer examples".

"The guitarist's fretwork on Blues From the Inside Out is even more elegant and sophisticated than on his first 11 rock-solid solo releases for the imprint ... There's never a shortage of fine supporting artists on Delmark recordings, and Specter's production and Steve Wagner's engineering lead to a crisp, clean sound".
