"This is an entirely excellent cast, both vocally and dramatically ... But it's also Wilson's keen sense of style, and equally that of his orchestra the Sinfonia of London, that bring home the bacon ... By spotlighting the verve, swagger and sheer mellowness of Don Walker's orchestrations, the result is that the richly ambitious score has surely never sounded better".

"This again is a painstaking restoration of the complete score - and by complete we're talking every scrap of music including exits and entrances ... And, of course (this being John Wilson), the original orchestrations (Don Walker) are vividly realised by an orchestra of precisely the size you would have heard on Broadway in 1945. Those were indeed the days ... It's the stylistic rightness of the band sound that made Oklahoma! and now this so special. So much inner detail. Wilson's signature brilliance of articulation makes everything so bright and clear ... Players, singers and conductor do this favourite score proud".

"Carousel is arguably the most beautiful of all Broadway's 'Golden Age' scores; Rodger's finest hour ... It hasn't been revived on Broadway since the transfer of the National Theatre's beautiful Nicholas Hytner staging 25 years ago ... We doget more of the dance music here than on other recordings ... This is also a beautifully sung revival ... These terrific artists are truly 'acting through song'. Music and lyrics come off the page like thay are newly minted ... totally at one with the period style ... And yet they are thoroughly modern, too, in their immediacy ... Lots to enjoy then".
