"As Cigarettes After Sex, Greg Gonzalez writes modern love songs set to downbeat dream pop. Much like relationships themselves, the songs on his self-titled debut LP are full of contradictions ... Through wallowing in its own mire and coming out the other side, Cigarettes After Sex becomes one of those restrained, low-boil albums where tempo, repetition, and muted composition construct an entire story within the pauses between the notes and the ideas between the lines".

"Greg Gonzalez lifts the echoey guitars and washes of sound into another league, with amazing vocals and great melodies. Hopefully the lyrics will mature ... Time will tell whether this is as good as Cigarettes After Sex get, but for now, it's undoubtedly good enough: close your ears to the occasional lyrical gaffe and you might have one of the debut albums of the year".
