""Original Highlife and Afrobeat Classics 1967-1981" is what it says in the smaller print and the smaller print doesn't lie. The first CD takes us through the early years from sweetly swinging highlife to material which bears the obvious stamp of '60s soul and early reggae. The second disc focuses on his later majestic highlife output, some of which he re-recorded with Khahibu Area Band for their album on Strut last year. Of particular note are a trio of tracks featuring fellow Ghanaian highlife royalty Ebo Taylor, two of which are seeing the light of day for the first time".

"A key player in the evolution of highlife, Pat Thomas (...) broke through in 1967 alongside guitarist Ebo Taylor in the Broadway Dance Band, performing classic big band with tracks like "Go Modern", the thrilling opener on this excellent two-disc, full-career anthology. As the Ghanaian soundscape shifted, so Thomas expanded his repertoire, successfully incorporating Jamaican soul and reggae (...), percussive funk (...) and blistering psych blues".
