"Among some delectable lesser-known cuts, blues aficionados will be pleased to find previously unissued tracks, such as those by the charismatic yet perfunctorily named Gray Haired Bill.Of course, no Chicago blues comp would be complete if it didn't at some point take in the unmistakable sandpaper-and-molasses crowing of blues giant Howlin' Wolf - an easy contender for greatest blues vocalist - and thankfully the big man is well represented here.Accompanied by a lavish booklet, if you have even the slightest interest in the blues, you can't go wrong with this set".

"This particular set turns out to be a far more attractive proposition than you'd think. Covering the period 1945-1958 over five CDs, itt combines a deep dive into its big names' lesser-known repertoire with an expert trawl through the era's unknowns. I've got a pretty decent blues collection, but there's at least a couple of CD's worth of first-rate stuff here I'd never heard before".
