"The disc exudes a freshness and joy in its music-making, a deligt in creating something new and relevant from entirely traditional original sources. Emplying no guest musicians, the sisters support their charismatic singing by creating a richly textured backdrop of fiddle, melodeon, cello, concertina and shruti. A major element in the album's signature is the deployment of pizzicato fiddle and cello, either to provide a ground bass (...) or as a gritty, driven source of momentum ...
