"One of the most successful groups that crossed over from gospel to secular/soul, The Staples Singers, has four of their last releases finally reissued. While the albums don't have mega-hits like "I'll Take You There" or "Respect Yourself", there is plenty to enjoy and appreciate".

"[In 1976 The Staple Singers] signed to Warners and, after shortening their name to The Staples, issued three albums which showed a group still in great musical shape ... 1977's Family Tree, produced by Eugene Record (The Chi-Lites), placed them in an orchestrated disco-funk setting best exemplified by the intoxicating Carolyn Franklin-scribed "What You Doing Tonight"".
