"Layla Zoe's "Gemini" is one of the most honest and hard hitting blues-rock albums of the year. She openly tackles the pain of the blues, but you always get the feeling that there's a more optimistic upside ... while there are plenty of good songs, great playing and some incredible vocals here, there's an argument to be made for these albums being released separately as there's simply so much emotional weight to absorb ... Layla's deep phrasing and guitarist Jan Laacks shimmering notes and delicate harmonics provide the perfect musical context to put her emotions on the line. Parallels will doubtless be drawn with Janis Joplin, but it's doubtful even Joplin would have dug so deep as this Canadian blues singer to bare her soul".

" ... full-throated vocalist, songsmith and harmonica player Layla Zoe takes listeners on a roller-coaster ride of emotions with this stunning two-CD set, proving once again that she's a force to be reckoned with on the international blues scene ... Disc one, entitled Fragility, is an unhurried, sparsely arranged acoustic treasure propelled by Laacks' fingerpicking and slide guitar skills. Layla's voice is smoky smooth, and each of her words - which are fully annotated in the liner notes - shines through with depth and great emotion ... Entitled Courage, the all-electric second CD, is a solid collection of modern blues rock and is as aurally different from the first one as day and night ... This one should be appealing to any blues lover who possesses diverse tastes. Interesting, moving and thought-provoking throughout".
