"... the jagged edges of their dirty R&B were too unpalatable for mainstream consumption; less marketable than the Stones, not as musically accomplished as The Yardbirds ... The wonders of hindsight, however, show them to be a vital and exciting proposition still worthy of investigation ... The first disc here brings together a whopping 25 of their prime era cuts, from familiar grizzly rockers Don't Bring Me Down and Rosalyn (both covered by Bowie on 1973's Pin Ups) to the psychedelic blues of Sittin' Alone, and the proto-concept album fare of SF Sorrow Is Born. Disc Two is less essential, a live 2010 show from the 100 Club in London; fiery and nostalgic, if lacking the sneer and snarl of the early days".
