"The Canadian producer and DJ's second album pays tribute to her father's memory, fusing home-video recordings with ambrosial disco, soul, and dance-pop: On Guy, personal reconciliation takes priority over satiating the club crowd. The tragic, gorgeous closer "15 Foot," which tells the story of Jayda's final goodbye to her father, lands like an anchor in the chest. The music, however, is weightless: a delicate lattice accented by acoustic guitar, chimes, and trembling strings. The unifying properties of Jayda G's sumptuous, aquatic dance-pop - and the new emphasis on voice - brings her audience close to her experience, whether or not you know the grief of losing a parent during childhood. On Guy, she takes time to steady herself to her inner metronome, finding her voice with her dad's help".

"An admirable and occasionally affecting project that balances both personal vulnerabilities with uplifting and life-affirming music".

"Musically, this is the most straightforward, hook-heavy dance-pop Jayda has made, sounding much more fit for the radio than her previous club-friendly releases ... Jayda's first full-length, Significant Changes, tied into her environmental toxicology studies, specifically related to the destruction of whales' ecosystems. Guy (the album) is even more thematically bound, and its structure of pop songs threaded together with interview clips makes it feel a bit more essay-ish than the debut ... That said, Jayda does a magnificent job connecting deeply personal stories with accessible music".
