"Overall, Kerr's unorthodox, intriguing song writing, captivatingly beautiful voice and fabulous band make Instar an absolute masterpiece which is not to be missed".

"After the success of her debut solo album Sweet Visitor, which won her the coveted title Folk Singer of the Year at 2015's BBC Folk Awards and a nomination for Best Album, expectations for Nancy Kerr's new offering were always going to be high, but Instar amply exceeds all anticipation ... Instar is not merely good, it's vital, visceral and urgent - balm for our woes, hope for our future: an essential companion for these turbulent times".

"Steeped in folk song all her life, we always knew Nancy Kerr was a beautiful singer, a nifty fiddle player and a thoughtful interpreter. What has become more of a surprise has been her emergence latterly as a fully rounded songwriter, crafting songs of unusual depth and complexity. Like Karine Polwart, with whom there are many parallels, her music, themes and lyricism are often shaped by association with the tradition, yet they come in many layers of thought and reference, while examining the modern condition ... Her songs have their challenges, but the challenge she imposes is an absorbing one, especially when accompanied not only by her melt-in-the-mouth vocals, but her Sweet Visitor Band, sounding now very much like a proper, unied unit ... A serious album for serious listeners with many thought-provoking issues at its heart - but if that sounds a bit daunting, it rocks along nicely too".
