"While Gordon spent most of his career in Memphis, he certainly learned the lessons of the classic New Orleans R&B masters, and these tunes capture his own distinctive and flavorful variation on the Crescent City sound, a bit bent but still recognizable, and a significant inspiration on the nascent Jamaican music scene, who would further rework these proto-Louisiana sounds into what would become ska. Fascinating as history and a lot of fun as music".

"Rosco Gordon penned a whole bunch of terrific, often humor-laced songs and delivered them in assertive, at times slurred, tenor tones. His unique shuffling piano style, which frequently emphasized the grace note at the end of each beat, was quite sloppy, yet it didn't stop him from having such hits in the U.S. during the early 1950s as Booted and No more doggin', as well as in Jamaica, where his playing influenced the development of ska".
