"Live 1974 is one of the few documents of this historically important version of the group on-stage. The occasional flaws in the recording are certainly offset by the strength of Fairport's performance, as they swing through British folk standards and Denny confirms her status as one of the most beguiling vocalists of her generation".

"As far as I can ascertain this Stateside evening was May 16th, just as Sandy's return was announced, both sides tussling to keep their identities, finding common ground in what [was] once cited as "Fotheringport". Denny in particular is in fine voice and obviously loving being in the security of a band ... "Solo" (...) is mighty, as is "John The Gun", buoyed by the ever present guitar/fiddle axis of Jerry Donahue and Dave Swarbrick who trade off one another like a pair of whirling dervishes on speed ... They both get applause halfway through a song for their exemplary craftmanship. Cop a load of "Dirty Linen" or the closer "Sir B MacKenzie" - they'll leave you breathless ... "Matty Groves" is ripped into ferociously with a venom the original only hinted at - what a way to set up a concert!".
