"John McNeil's songs are wide-ranging and have huge intervallic jumps which means they are not exactly singer friendly. Allegra Levy was well aware of that. She was not deterred however and set about writing lyrics to nine of his compositions which she sings impressively on this CD".

"Flexible and bop toned vocalist Allegra Levy interprets compositions of trumpeter John McNeil, who sits in a couple of songs with the regular team of pianist Carmen Staaf, bassist Carmen Rothwell and drummer Colleen Clark. At times, Levy gives hint of Annie Ross, with a bright and clear enunciation as she works the hairpin turns of boppers like the intricate title track and hep "C.J."".

"Allegra Levy's Lose My Number isn't breaking boundaries in its fusion of lyrical prowess and nine pieces of trumpeter John McNeil's decades-spanning instrumental repertoire. However, quite a few of the record's underlying creative decisions - one of which includes working with an all-female backing band - shaped Levy's writing process and the music's overall performance ... Collectively, Lose My Number reverberates mutual respect and admiration, truly unifying two artists' visions with finesse".
