"Despite Dr Feelgood continuing until the present with no original members, few who witnessed the astonishing classic line-up will argue that the band's potent essence irrevocably dulled after guitarist Wilko Johnson left during the traumatic recording of 1977's Sneakin' Suspicion. Though sometimes strained and slickly produced, the album made for a solid swansong for the guitarist, whose spitting guitar towers on Paradise (on which he also sings) and You'll Be Mine's Bo Diddley vamp. If anything, Sneakin' Suspicion's presence in this no frills collection underlines how vital Wilko's clipped metronomic motor was in setting the Feelgoods above their pub-rock contemporaries. The remaining four discs in this no-frills collection chronicle the years with his replacement John `Gypie' Mayo; a proficient and at times scorching player, but lacking his predecessor's weird hoodoo presence. The set continues with 1977's The Prisoner-inspired Be Seeing You, then curiously skips1978'sPrivate Practice and hit single Milk and Alcohol to continue with 1979's Let It Roll, 1980's A Case Of The Shakes and lacklustre live contract filler On The Job. By now, the Feelgoods were a proficient bar band distinguished by Brilleaux's increasingly sozzled rasp, paying the cost to be the boss".
