"The album as a whole does a great job of expressing both Bramhall's roots, which are deep and strong in the blues and rock tradition, but also showcasing the flowers of the new growth, from recent travels and life experiences. Rich Man is a can't miss expansion of Bramhall's amazing talent".

"Bramhall reworks his blues-rock traditions along with some world music influences into something that touches on the Allman Brothers and Hendrix (...) even while pushing out into something distinctly his own ... The album's best and most connected tracks would have made for a concise, potent release. The album's hints at experimentation suggest the possibility of either a second, out-there album or a more fully inventive version of this one. Instead, we don't quite get either, and Rich Man lands as a solid but slightly frustrating release".

"Although Bramhall is at least partly known for his fiery blues-rock guitar skills, he downplays his six-string talents on Rich Man ... Bramhall's tunes are often dense though always melodic, even if those melodies slither and snake their way through the music ... this is an ambitious, beautifully crafted project that feels as centered and focused as its spiritually-influenced frontman".

"Rich Man finds Bramhall taking stock of his musical past and present, and the result is stylistically broad and thoughfully executed ... Throughout, Bramhall's guitar playing is never flashy for its own sake, but is tailored to suit each song ... With its musical diversity and lyrical grace, Doyle Bramhall II's Rich Man is a moving, hopeful soundtrack for these turbulent times".
