"A truly splendid and gorgeous debut set from this incredible new singer-songwriting talent demands room in your life ... Laura Fell only came to music at the relatively late age of 25, when her poetry seems to take a natural bend toward song lyricism. And once you've heard what she brings to the world of acoustic songwriting, you'll be so, so glad she did ... Oh, and Laura's voice ... You'll think of the first time you ever heard Karen Dalton; the first time you ever heard Tim Buckley. Sorta that sorta voice ... If you're at all down with female acoustic songwriting - and I mean from any colour of the spectrum, from Laura Marling through to Aldous Harding, Gillian Welch through to Vashti Bunyan, Nadia Reid through to Marissa Nadler; then be prepared to add Londoner Laura Fell to your list of chanteuserie swoons".

"It's fair to say that 2020 has been a pretty tough year for all, so we might all be able to benefit from seeing a therapist right now; step forward London-based Laura Fell with her debut album. As a psychotherapist by day, she is sharing some of her wisdom, alongside her own journey of self-discovery - despite people assuming she already knows all the answers ... A worthwhile passion project with the bones of something great within".

"The fact that Fell is a psychotherapist provides fertile ground for music writers; a chance to pour over liner notes and lyrics to extract profound statements and guidance. But Safe From Me is far from a self-help manual, it is a deep dive inwards ... In unearthing every nuanced detail and surrounding herself with an impeccable host of musicians Fell has ensured a timelessness to her record free from the strict constraints of genre. Very few debuts can boast the luscious layering of Fleet Foxes ("Glad"), the deathly knock of Tom Waits ("Cold") and the old before their time wisdom of Laura Marling ("Every Time"). It feels like an album made by a lover of albums, where every quiver of cello, coo of saxophone and plink of Rhodes piano has been carefully mapped out. Fells powerful poetry exudes the same meticulousness ... At times reminiscent of Vera Sola's debut Shades, Safe From Me feels as if it has been picked up and dropped from another space and time ... Ultimately Safe From Me is an understated masterclass in alternative folk, and deserves to become more than just a hidden gem".

"Fell is nothing if not a woman under control. Against a background of guitar, along with a wealth of strings, Bone of Contention makes her feelings abundantly clear, "I got an axe to grind/ A grudge to bear/ A bone to pick with you." This is a strong woman who has things under control. She knows exactly what she's doing, her voice is strong and her beliefs even stronger. Having written poetry for 10-years morphing into song writing wasn't a particularly difficult task. Yet she had to work three jobs in order to raise the money to pay the classical musicians that play on Safe from Me. The coloring they offer makes the songs all the better, providing moments that resonate beautifully in ways that a simple acoustic guitar never could".

"Fell's rich alto is pure poetry, spinning a string of bitter clichés into gold on the slow-burning "Bone Of Contention", fragile yet resilient on "Until Now" and charming on "Left Foot, Right Foot" ... Rich instrumental flourishes elevate Fell's acoustic guitar compositions".
