"Revelatory garage reissues are thin on the ground, but this is an important one: best known for granting drummer Michael Stuart-Ware to Love and recording a classic Arthur Lee tune, The Sons of Adam were an archetypal Sunset Strip group, marking the changes from surf to garage and proto psychedelia. Beginning as the Fender IV, they cut a swathe through the go-go clubs in 1965/1966, with hot-shot guitarist Randy Holden. This set includes seven Fender IV tracks (intense "Mar Gaya"), the three Sons Of Adam singles, demos, and an unearthed 1966 live set from the Avalon: eight songs, ending with a jammed-out "Gloria". The graph shows a steady rise from first to second single - a fine cover of "You're A Better Man Than I" - to the extraordinary October 1966 double sider, "Baby Show The World" and Lee's "Feathered Fish": a reconfigured group slamming right up against the wall of deep psych".
