"Recommended: Francesco Rasi could certainly be described as one of the 'star' tenors of the early years of opera ... The tenor Emiliano Gonzalez Toro ... clearly, and understandably, finds Rasi a very interesting figure ... Listening to this disc, the hearer's mind is fully engaged with the text, because Emiliano Gonzalez Toro's voice and mind are. While never pedantic, Gonzalez Toro's attention to the text is always exact, always concerned to communicate its meaning clearly ... I find this disc thoroughly enjoyable ... I find the eloquent clarity of Gonzalez Toro's singing both striking and rewarding".

"Many vocal skills we now admire in opera were born in the early 17th century. These performances centre upon the techniques of the early solo singer-composers, wonderfully resurrected here by the ravishing and sometimes mercurial vocal wizardry of the Swiss-Chilean tenor Emiliano Gonzalez Toro ... Exceptional musicianship abounds, notably in the sensitive, varied exchanges between voice and accompaniment".

Varmt anbefalet!".

"Francesco Rasi was a tenor at the Gonzaga court ... Rasi was also a composer, and Mathilde Etienne ... and Emiliano Gonzalez Toro have had the excellent idea of featuring songs by him along with pieces by contemporaries ... Emiliano Gonzales Toro honours his predecessor almost to perfection ... Gonzalez has a beautiful voice, which he deploys with skill and sensitivity. The roulades are dispatched with vigour and accuracy, and time and again I find in my notes the word: 'delicacy'. The excellent continuo group of viola da gamba, theorbo and harp gets the chance to shine in preludes and interludes, and a couple of solos too".
