"Used Future sees the band continue its transition from stoner metal stalwarts to tube-driven, classic rock-loving Deep Purple, Blue Öyster Cult, and Thin Lizzy enthusiasts. Recorded in Portland, Oregon and produced with considerable snap and sizzle by Tucker Martine (the Decemberists, My Morning Jacket), the 13-track set is a controlled blaze of tight, '70s hard rock riffage, fuzzed-out desert blues, and jammy progressive metal that occasionally probes the outer reaches of retro-rock in search of a new spark".

"'Used Future' står generelt ud som et musikalsk baggrundsbillede, der gør sig bedst, når det får lov at blive nydt lidt diskret. Numrene er ikke så pågående, som vi tidligere har set fra The Sword. Til gengæld er det en plade, der sniger sig ind under huden på dig, bedst som du er i gang med noget helt andet. Og den vokser".

"Tucker Martine produced the album and does a thoughtful job of weaving songs together to create a sonic journey that feels cohesive and thematic ... Used Future is certainly a step forward in the overall evolution of The Sword. They're taking greater cues from early classic rock, embracing storytelling through instrumentation, and further distancing themselves from stoner metal".
