"Barlow isn't the yearning aesthete any longer, and he doesn't act like one. But what's most remarkable about this album is, despite the high gravitas of the subject manner, it still manages to capture the yearning and imagination of youth, and never loses touch with the redemptive qualities of interpersonal connectedness".

"Maintaining a punk approach, Brace the Wave was partially written and recorded on the fly with Dinosaur Jr. producer Justin Pizzoferrato, its poignant urgency proving refreshing. An exercise in guile, Barlow tempers verbal emotion with instrumental restraint; such juxtaposition pits the yin of youth against the yang of experience, with the latter proving victorious".

"Brace The Wave minder mere om en gang lallende og selvterapeutisk lo-fi-nørderi, hvor hverken sangene eller den musikalske form kan helbredes. Arkiver under håbløs".
