"The follow-up to Mu.zz.le, Callus is decidedly darker than its predecessor, assaulting the ears with endless hazy vocals, wailing synths and moody bass guitar improvisations from former Cure member Pearl Thompson. With the exception of Krishna Punk and Devils, the album lacks drive, and at 19 tracks it's easy to lose focus while listening".

"Callus is the most challenging, confrontational Gonjasufi record yet, and it's also his most daring work".

"The atmosphere might get oppressive, but it never feels stuck. Besides handily proving that it's a fairly straight line from Gaslamp Killer-style acid-funk crate-digging to the grimier pages in Adrian Sherwood's portfolio, Callus is also a healthy reminder that it takes some strikingly noisy stuff to actually hold up against his voice. Get used to it; even when it sandpapers your ears, it just makes the path to your mind that much clearer".

"With Callus, Gonjasufi has crafted an aural equivalent of this modern era. It's a bleak, often painful listen that does not engender a sense of hope for the future. In this, the commentary acts as something of a self-reflection in which we see ourselves as we truly are as a society. It's unflinching, unapologetic and at times bordering on unlistenable. But it's a bold sonic statement that brutally conveys its intended message. In this, Callus proves a success".
