"Each of the old school R&B songs on Deep in My Soul fall somewhere on the good-to-nearly-great continuum and bring a nice stylistic diversity, but it is the lineup of blues tunes dominating the second half of the album that leaves the strongest impression".

"Stateside folks may not have heard much from Big Daddy Wilson, who released five albums while living in Europe before the North Carolina native returned home in the past year. The lure of the South proved to be a powerful draw when Wilson began pre-production for an album begun in Memphis and finished at FAME in Muscle Shoals. Guided by esteemed producer Jim Gaines, who assembled some of the best from both places, Wilson delivers an album befitting its title. It would play well alongside just about any classic deep soul album".

"Wilson says it best about his music and career. "It's the journey of a man who found himself deep in this beautiful music called the blues and finally, after twenty-five years, made it back home -"".

"Wilson only recently returned to the South to make his first American album, produced by Jim Gaines in Memphis and Muscle Shoals' FAME Studios. He sings the words of soul-blues songs with a warm tone, refined phrasing, good diction and an emphasis on natural, levelheaded expression. This graybeard has duende, a rare cool".
