"Like the universities that host them, the great English cathedral choirs are conservative institutions, carrying forward grand traditions that accrete new elements only slowly. The Choir of King's College, Cambridge, is one of the greatest of all, and one of the most conservative ... the sense of tradition here is perhaps the biggest attraction of all, and the newly knighted Sir Stephen Cleobury points it up with multiple mixed Magnificat-Nunc dimittis pairs featuring pieces from different periods: it's all part of a larger discrete body of music, he seems to say. An unusually attractive live album from the Choir of King's College".

"Throughout this programme the musicians of King's College, Cambridge are on fine, consistent form ... As I indicated, this is a discerningly chosen programme of music, all excellently performed, and it gives a very satisfying overview of Stephen Cleobury's last academic year in charge of the music at King@0300s College, Cambridge".

"Recorded at various Evensong services, this mix of choral music, old and new is as glorious as you'd expect, and with superb programme notes to boot".

"King's is King's, and its steadfast traditions - of sound production as much as procedure (as in the wholly counterintuitive pointing of its psalter) - is its wonder. Finzi's Lo, the full final sacrifice rises and falls like yeast, even if its big chords obstinately refuse to settle ... Even in those problem corners, the choir's nobility is propulsive and distinctive ... Cleobury was a remarkable, historic, tenure on so many fronts ... but there's no doubting the Daniel Hyde era offers a serious opportunity for renewal. Many will be listening closely".
