"Most of it is just Brit School graduate Ridings at the piano, playing tinkly high notes so delicate they would struggle to summon a two-inch plastic ballerina from her music-box slumber. You could see her minimalist approach as admirably defiant in light of the current charts arms race - every song a firing squad of hitmakers - if it wasn't so dull".

"Freya Ridings includes a mix of sedate, minimalist ballads and pop songs that build volume around Ridings' voice and piano with copious strings, backup harmonies, drums, and handclaps. The album's standout tracks select the best elements from both of these strands and braid them together with ease".

"The only thing keeping it from achieving five stars is that it's almost too effective. Even if you consider yourself to be of a cheery disposition, the conviction in which Ridings sings through her woes will sweep you away. So if you find yourself in too deep, remember to take regular intervals but whenever you need to sob heavily, know that Ridings has you covered".
