CDs des Monats: Obwohl von Antonio Caldara über 40 Oratorien überliefert sind, bleiben die Aufnahmen auf einige wenige beschränkt. René Jacobs legte 1995 die 'Magadalena zu Füssen Christi' zum ersten mal in einer durchweg überzeugenden Interpretation vor ... Zwar wirkt Benedetta Mazzucatos Stimme weniger warm als seinerzeit die von Bernarda Fink ... Emmanuelle de Negri als Magdalena braucht den Vergleich zu Maria Cristina Kiehr nicht zu scheuen ... Auch die Herren sind durchweg überzeugend besetzt ... Dieser Einspielung ... dass man sie vollsten Herzens empfehlen kann".

"Maddalena ai piedi di Cristo was probably composed for Caldara's native Venice in about 1697-98 ... The unfolding religious drama zips along thanks to Damien Guillon's crystal-clear handling of Caldara's concise arias. Emmanuelle de Negri's eloquent Maddalena provides several potent doses of penitential weeping ... The stringladen slow laments ... are sublime ... The assorted string ritornellos framing many of the arias (often in five parts) are played with suppleness and astute shaping by Le Banquet Céleste, and the continuo support in recitatives and simpler arias pays close attention to the singers' texts ... Guillon's shrewd direction produces a scintillating performance that offers fresh light on Caldara's qualities".
