"Recommended: It is good ... to have an opportunity, via this wonderful choir, to hear more of the music of this composer, who was associated with the beautiful and ancient cathedral city Coimbra ... This is ... the first disc to be completely devoted to Pedro de Cristo ... despite the fact that approximately 250 works are attributed to him ... I like this choir very much with their Italianate, open vowels, clear tone quality, precise intonation and immaculate diction ... Not only is this music wonderfully moving and uplifting but the performances are of outstanding quality".

"Cristo's polyphony is unshowy but always graceful, and the church acoustic in which this selection of antiphons plus a Mass has been recorded perfectly sets off the unadorned freshness of the voices ... Cupertinos - and Hyperion - are to be congratulated on bringing this radiant music to light".

"Editor's choice: It is a deep pleasure to hear this ensemble flourish ... It has become increasingly obvious that the singers of Cupertinos and their musicologist-director Luis Toscano have a unique take on the golden age of Portuguese polyphony, and this is forther strengthened by this new release of Marian works by the extraordinarily under-recorded Pedro de Cristo (c1550-1618). But this recording is much more than a programme of musical treasures, it is also a milestone for Cupertinos: the arrival of a more confident, robust sound and, crucially, new-found rhythmic drive".
