"Ilam is the Montréal-based Senegalese singer and guitarist whose debut album, Hope, had him compared to everyone from Tracy Chapman to Bob Marley, even if his Sahel-tinged blues and pop is more redolent of compatriots Youssou N'Dour and Souleymane Faye ... On this eagerly awaited follow-up, guitar-heavy songs touching on themes of family, friendship and respect are sung in Wolof, French and Fula. Baaba Maal is here, duetting on the soaring 'Laram' ... Ilam could probably sing his contact list and still mesmerise but here, on hook-laden compositions also including 'Beugeu', a paean to goatherds, and 'Danse la Vie', which celebrates links between Canada and Senegal, the depth and brightness of his voice and his presence confirms a real star in the making".
