"Since the 1980s, exemplary British R&B singer, songwriter, and guitarist James Hunter has been plying his trade with his own bands, first with Howlin' Wilf and the Vee-Jays and then with the James Hunter Six ... As ever, his music remains rooted in historic rhythm and blues, doo wop, and soul, but Hunter expands his range here to include cha cha, rhumba, and swing rhythms".

"If you didn't know better, on first listen to Nick Of Time (...) by The James Hunter Six, you'd think it was a long-lost Motown record. All of the classic soul sounds are in there-the early rockblues guitar chords, bright organ riffs, gospel shouts, a wailing harmonica. The 13 tunes are short-most come in under three minutes, just right for old-time radio play. And then there are Hunter's raspy vocals, raw in their expressiveness".
