"Recording of the month: Lan Shui and the SSO immediately impress with a Printemps that begins with playing of limpid loveliness; indeed, the whole performance has all the colour and flecks of detail one could wish for ... Speaking of that rhapsody, Claude Delangle sounds suitably languorous, his alto sax as warm, pure and full-toned as it needs to be. And, thanks to a strong pulse and sense of purpose, Debussy's reveries never become soporific ... Harpist Gulnara Mashurova ... is at her most lustrous and characterful in the two dances ... A quite splendid conclusion to Lan Shui's Debussy project; the sonics are a treat, too".

"Here are two great masterpieces with little in common ... The meandering opening to each work may suggest a kinship between the clouds of Debussy's 'Nuages' and the incense that envelops the Requiem; yet it is disconcerting to move from the outdoor world of the 'Nocturnes' into the intense sombre beauty of Duruflé's church. The performances have some fine qualities, Robin Ticciati coaxing shimmering textures from his orchesta in 'Sirenes' ... Where textures are lighter, such as in Magdalena Kozena's marvellously sustained Pie Jesu, the opening of the Agnus Dei and the In Paradisum, the results are sublime. Overall, though, this is less than the sum of its parts".

"The admirable agility of soloist Claude Delangle makes the 'Rhapsodie pour Orchestre et Saxophone' the highlight here. There's polished playing throughout, though 'Nocturnes' is perhaps a little too prim and proper".

"For two works so diametrically opposed in feeling, philosophy and belief, these marvellous pieces sit well together. They also appear to chime with Robin Ticciati's very particular sensibilities as a conductor. And he plainly adores them ... Singing and playing strike me as excellent and this spiritual embrace of a piece is engineered to Linn's highest standards".

"The Singapore Symphony's Debussy first impressed me with an excellent La Mer under Lan Shui ... This is their third all-Debussy disc since and it features several not-quite-rarities, attractively performed ... There's plenty of surface glitter in this Singapore account ... Shui and the Singaporeans play most persuasively, with a particularly lively 'Fètes ... A most tempting triptych of Debussy discs'".
