"Essential ska, rocksteady, mento, nyahbingi and soul from the first female Jamaican reggae producer ... Sonia Pottinger broke the glass ceiling in a recording industry dominated by and geared towards men, by pioneering rocksteady and early reggae with her Gay Feet, Excel, Pep, Rainbow and High Note labels. She's rarely celebrated on CD but this 59-track set, an expanded reissue of Steve Barrow's 1990 vinyl compilation of the same name, fills that gap well and although spanning just two years - 1966-67 - the quality and diversity of material is immense".

"Music from a crucial point in rocksteady's evolution ... This extensive collection is a worthy celebration of Pottinger's contribution to music; the sounds remain rich, with discoveries awaiting even the most seasoned rocksteady listener".
