"The grown up confidence in blurring the personal, the political, the sexual and the everyday in the lyrics is reflected in the subtle power of the music; there are no big choruses, and Sol's voice is velvet throughout, but there's absolute assurance that the hooks embedded and woven through the grooves are plenty to make it addictive. It is a masterpiece".

"The album through the penultimate "I Love You" is steady and generous enough, but once the sneaky-brilliant chorus of the closing "Her Light" makes the first pass, its greatness is crystal clear. What a payoff".

"With a borrowed surname that means sun in Spanish, the part-Spanish, part-Jamaican Cleo Sol is the shining light that many people need in their life right now. It may not be the most distinctive sound but a surprisingly glowing debut".
